Terms of Service
Plain-language terms for engaging Trend Interior Home Builders.
Last updated · 2026-05-07
Who these terms apply to
These terms govern the engagement between Trend Interior Home Builders (Pty) Ltd ("we", "us", "the firm") and the person or entity who has accepted a quote from us ("you", "the client"). They apply to every quote we issue and every job we accept, unless we've signed a separate contract with you that says otherwise.
Quotes
Quotes are valid for 30 days from the date of issue. Pricing reflects materials and labour costs at the time of quoting. If you accept after 30 days, we may need to re-quote depending on supplier price movement.
Quotes are itemised by trade (plumbing, electrical, gas, cabinetry, finishings) so you can see where the cost sits. Quotes are inclusive of VAT where the project is VAT-applicable.
A quote becomes a contract on your written acceptance (email, WhatsApp message, or signed quote). At that point we book the start date and the supplier orders go through.
Deposits and payment
For jobs over R10,000, a deposit equal to 50% of the quoted total is payable on acceptance to cover materials, cabinetry manufacture and trade booking. The balance falls due on practical completion of the work and the issuance of any required Certificates of Compliance.
Smaller jobs (under R10,000) are typically billed on completion in full. We invoice by EFT; we don't process card payments.
Late payment beyond 30 days from the invoice date attracts interest at the prime rate published by the South African Reserve Bank, calculated daily on the outstanding amount.
Scope and changes
Quotes are based on the scope agreed at the time of pricing. If you ask us to change the scope mid-project, or if site conditions reveal work that wasn't visible at quote time (rotten substrate, undocumented wiring, asbestos sheeting, etc.), we'll stop, scope the variation, agree the cost in writing, and only then proceed.
Variations are charged at fair time-and-materials rates. We don't ambush clients with mid-job cost increases; every variation gets a written sign-off before the work happens.
Workmanship warranty
We warrant the workmanship on every job we hand over for 12 months from the date of practical completion. If anything we did fails within that window because of how we did it (rather than misuse, accident, third-party damage or normal wear), we'll come back and put it right at no charge to you.
The warranty does not cover:
- Wear and tear on consumable parts (washers, seals, filters, light bulbs, batteries, gas regulators).
- Damage caused by misuse, abuse, neglect or accident.
- Damage caused by acts of God, lightning strikes that exceed the surge protection installed, flood, fire, or other force-majeure events.
- Subsequent modifications or additions made by you or another contractor.
- Failures of materials supplied by you rather than us.
Materials warranty
Materials and appliances we install carry the warranty supplied by the manufacturer or supplier. We pass through whatever warranty you'd be entitled to had you bought the item directly. Where a manufacturer warranty fails (for example, a stove that breaks after 7 months under a 12-month appliance warranty), we'll do what we can to liaise with the supplier on your behalf, but the warranty obligation is the manufacturer's, not ours.
Certificates of Compliance
For work that requires it, we issue:
- Plumbing Certificate of Compliance (PIRB COC), issued by our PIRB-registered plumber on completion.
- Gas Certificate of Compliance (SAQCC COC), issued by our SAQCC-registered gas installer on completion.
- Electrical Certificate of Compliance, issued by our registered installation electrician on completion.
Certificates remain valid for the period set by the issuing body. Where a Certificate is required for a property transfer or insurance claim, we re-supply on request without charge.
Liability
Our liability under any contract with you is limited to the cost of the work we performed. We don't accept liability for consequential, indirect or special damages, for example, loss of use of a property during repair, or loss of business associated with a domestic disruption.
Nothing in these terms limits our liability for personal injury, death caused by our negligence, fraud, or any other liability that cannot lawfully be limited under South African consumer protection law.
Cancellation
You may cancel an accepted quote at any time before work begins. Cancellation after we've ordered materials or started cabinetry manufacture is subject to recovery of those costs (typically the deposit). Cancellation after work has begun is subject to payment for work completed plus materials supplied to that point.
We may cancel and refund a deposit if site conditions on arrival differ materially from what was scoped, the cost variation is unworkable, or the project is unsafe to continue. We don't cancel lightly.
Force majeure
Neither party is liable for delay or failure to perform caused by events beyond reasonable control: load-shedding extending into work hours, supplier failures, fuel shortages, public-health emergencies, severe weather, or government order. Where force majeure delays the project, we agree a revised timeline together.
Dispute resolution
If something goes wrong, talk to us first. The fastest resolution is usually a phone call to Clive on 021 788 2348. If that doesn't resolve the issue, write to info@trendinterior.co.za with "Complaint" in the subject line and we'll respond within 7 days.
Disputes that can't be resolved bilaterally may be referred to the Consumer Goods and Services Ombud (CGSO) or the appropriate industry body (PIRB for plumbing, the National Consumer Commission for general consumer disputes). Both routes are free for consumers and faster than litigation.
Where litigation is unavoidable, the courts of the Western Cape have jurisdiction and South African law governs.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. Material changes are flagged at the top of the page; minor wording or contact-detail updates may not be. The terms in force at the time you accept a quote are the terms that govern that engagement.
