Electrical in Cape Town
Electrical work coordinated through our registered installation electrician. DB board upgrades, solar PV, repairs, rewiring, surge protection and electrical Certificates of Compliance across Cape Town and the Cape Peninsula.
Electrical work happens on every project we run: a DB upgrade during a kitchen rebuild, solar PV with a heat pump, fault-finding when something trips. Trend Interior Home Builders coordinates the electrical scope on every job and is accountable for the whole project, but the wire-pulling happens through our registered installation electrician. South African law requires electrical Certificates of Compliance to be issued by a Department of Labour-registered installation electrician: the right path for compliant electrical work, and the path we use for every job.
What that means for you: one phone number, one quote, one project manager, one COC at the end. Below is the scope of electrical work we cover, grouped into three acts. Anchor links jump to a particular service. Call 083 700 8260 any hour for emergencies.
Power and panels
DB board upgrades and replacements
Older DB boards run out of capacity once a household adds solar PV, a heat pump, electric vehicle charging or a second oven. We size the new board to the projected load, install proper earth-leakage protection, breaker per circuit, neutral bar and labelling. Wired to SANS 10142-1, signed off with a COC on completion.
We also handle full-board replacements where the existing board is corroded, undersized for the property, or pre-1990 in a way that fails a transfer COC inspection.
Earthing and surge protection
Lightning storms across the Peninsula are routine in summer; surge events damage everything downstream of an undersized earth or missing surge arrestor. We add Type 2 surge protection at the DB board (covers everything inside the home), check the earth electrode is to spec, and recommend Type 3 protection at sensitive load points (home office, AV rack, server cupboards, solar inverter) where the budget allows.
Solar PV installation
Panel mounting, inverter, battery backup, grid-tie. We coordinate solar PV against the rest of the project (heat pumps, geyser swaps, kitchen reno) so the work sequences cleanly and the DB board upgrade lands at the same time as the inverter install. Bypass switching, change-over relays and load-shedding-friendly wiring on every install.
Repairs and emergencies
Electrical repairs and rewiring
Tripping breakers, dead sockets, sparking switches, ceiling fan wiring. We diagnose, repair, test, certify. Older homes across the Southern Peninsula (1970s and 1980s wiring especially) often need partial or full rewires. We can scope room by room or whole-home depending on the problem.
Plug-point upgrades to modern double sockets, lighting circuits to LED, network drops to home offices, all coordinated as part of a renovation or as standalone jobs.
Emergency electrician
Loss of power, sparking outlets, smoke from a DB, water ingress on an electrical install: all emergencies, all 24/7. Direct line: 083 700 8260. We dispatch from Capricorn Park, Muizenberg, and reach the Southern Peninsula and Atlantic Seaboard fastest. After-hours pricing applies between 17:00 and 08:00 and across weekends and public holidays.

Electrical Certificate of Compliance
A valid electrical COC is required by South African law for every property transfer and for most insurance claims. We issue COCs through our registered installation electrician on every job we complete. We can also do a standalone COC inspection on an existing installation (typically when you’re preparing to sell), scope any remediation needed, do the work, and issue the COC.
We keep records of every COC we’ve issued, indexed by property and date, and re-supply on request without charge.
How we work
Every electrical job runs the same way. You call, WhatsApp or email, whichever’s easiest. We come and quote inside 48 hours, on site where the job calls for it. Our registered installation electrician runs the work alongside the rest of the trades where the project calls for coordination (kitchen renos, solar tie-ins, full rebuilds). On completion you get the electrical COC plus the workmanship guarantee paperwork.
Non-urgent electrical work is usually same-day or next-day, scope depending. Emergencies we’ll attend the day you call, with the dispatch radius from Capricorn Park out to the Southern Peninsula and Atlantic Seaboard reaching the quickest.
- Do you have an in-house electrician?
- Electrical work is coordinated through our registered installation electrician. South African law requires electrical Certificates of Compliance to be issued by a Department of Labour-registered installation electrician, and that's the route we use for every job. You deal with one team, one quote and one project manager. Trend Interior Home Builders is accountable for the whole job from quote to handover, and the wire-pulling happens through our registered partner.
- Who issues the electrical Certificate of Compliance?
- Our registered installation electrician issues the electrical COC on completion of every job that requires one. We keep records of every COC we issue, and we can re-supply on request for property transfers, insurance claims and audits.
- Do you handle solar PV installation?
- Yes. Panel mounting, inverter and battery integration, grid-tie and DB board upgrades to take the new load. We coordinate solar PV against the rest of the project (heat pumps, geyser swaps, kitchen renovations) so the trades sequence and there's one COC at the end.
- Do you do property-transfer electrical COC inspections?
- Yes. If you're selling a home and need a transfer COC, we can inspect the existing installation, do any remediation needed, and issue the COC. Quote on the inspection separately from the remediation, so you only pay for the work that's actually needed.
- What's the typical lead time for a DB board upgrade?
- Standard DB upgrades are usually a one-day job once we're on site, scheduled inside two weeks of sign-off. Bigger jobs (full rewires, solar tie-ins, three-phase upgrades) are scoped on a per-project basis. Emergencies (no power, tripping main breaker, dead circuits) we'll attend same-day.
- Which suburbs do you cover?
- Cape Town Metro, the Cape Peninsula and the Southern Peninsula are our standard footprint. The Atlantic Seaboard, Helderberg, West Coast (to Saldanha) and Overberg (to Hermanus) are covered by appointment. See /areas for the full coverage spread.
